MODOC DEFEATS FALL RIVER BOYS

(FEBRUARY 18, 2005 • 20 PHOTOGRAPHS) The Modoc Braves defeated the Fall River Bulldogs in the final game of the Shasta Cascade League regular season, 53-40. The Bulldogs took the lead for the first time with 2:15 remaining in the first half and kept the contest close through much of the second half. Fall River finished 1-13 in league play and 6-18 overall. Modoc finished second at 11-3 SCL, 20-6 overall behind Trinity at 12-2 SCL, 20-5 overall. (FEBRUARY 18, 2005 • 18 PHOTOGRAPHS) The Fall River girls basketball team defeated the Modoc Braves at the Bulldog court Friday night, 68-19, in their final Shasta Cascade League season contest. Fall River finished in fourth place in the SCL with a 7-7 record, 12-13 mark overall behind first place Etna, Mt. Shasta and Bishop Quinn. Before he graduated from Cal, Mark was a PrepStar All-America selection at Fall River High School and was rated as the No. 10 offensive line prospect in the West. WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY BY MONTGOMERY CREEK RESIDENT JOAN DIMAIO

(NOVEMBER 2004 • 22 PHOTOGRAPHS or 7 PHOTOGRAPHS) She was raised and schooled in Southern California, earning an AA Degree at Santa Ana Junior College.  Joan worked at a conducted Travel Tour Agency and the Warrants Division of the local sheriff's department. In 1971 she and her husband moved to Central California to get out of the city and enjoy country life on an almond farm. While there she worked five years as a legal secretary and later the couple owned an outdoor equipment dealership in a nearby town. In November 1989 they sold their business and home and in February of 1990 moved and retired to Montgomery Creek. Joan and her husband are members of the Grace Community Bible Church of Burney. Both recently retired after 12 years of service with the Montgomery Creek Volunteer Fire Department. She has owned two personal computers and digital cameras over the past 5-1/2 years and is currently using a Canon EOS Rebel digital camera.  On their 20 acres of timber, “the Lord has provided me with some wonderful opportunities to photograph wildlife, insects and landscapes in their natural surroundings.  Many of my photos were taken from a boat while fishing for trout, crappie and bass.”  Her photo postcards are displayed for sale at three local markets. She also enjoys designing business cards for local merchants.  More than 20 of her photos have been shown on KRCR-TV weather news. BIG VALLEY CARDINALS LOSE TO LOYALTON IN FOOTBALL ACTION

(OCTOBER 30, 2004 • 51 PHOTOGRAPHS or 15 PHOTOGRAPHS) Big Valley's Evergreen League record dropped to 3-4 after losing Saturday to Loyalton, 27-12. Juan Escalante and Luke Rodgers each scored a touchdown for the Cardinals. The local gridmen sport a 3-5 overall record. Loyalton is 6-1 in league play and 8-1 overall. Big Valley finishes out the football season Friday night when they host Greenville for homecoming. To date, Greenville posts a 2-5 league record and 2-7 overall mark. Barrel Racing At The California High School Rodeo Association Dist. 1 Rodeo In McArthur

Former School District Office In Cassel Destroyed By Fire Saturday Morning

Hat Creek Man Is Flown To Redding Hospital With Injuries Sustained In Sept. 12 Crash

(SEPTEMBER 12, 2004 • 9 PHOTOGRAPHS) A Sunday morning collision between two vehicles happened on Highway 299 in Johnson Park about 7:05 a.m. William T. Rice, 66, of Hat Creek was traveling west on the highway at about 45 to 50 miles per hour when a second vehicle, driven by Kelsey L. Allingham, 21, of Quincy started a U-turn from the J-Mart parking lot, driving across the westbound lanes and into the path of Rice. The front of Rice's truck collided with the left rear of the truck and trailer, reported Roger Spain of the California Highway Patrol. The impact severed the trailer hitch from the truck.
